November 18: Why the Travel Industry is Essential in the Fight for Vaccine Equity

Free for members and the public

While vaccines for COVID-19 have become more widely available, vaccinations are significantly lagging at a global level, particularly in low to middle-income nations.

According to the World Health Organization’s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, of the 4.8 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses delivered around the world to date, roughly 75% have gone to just 10 countries. While high-income countries across the globe have administered around 100 doses for every 100 citizens, low-income countries have administered only 1.5 for every 100 citizens.

This deep inequity in access to vaccines will inevitably mean more loss of life and the continued upending of our daily lives. According to the World Health Organization and the United Nations Development Programme, global vaccine inequity will have a lasting and profound impact on the global economic recovery.

What exactly does that mean for the travel and tourism industry? How does this affect the communities we live in and destinations we travel to? And how can we, as everyday travelers and citizens, make an impact?

Join Wanderful for a conversation with journalists, health experts, and travel brands to answer some of these complex and heavy questions and move towards actionable solutions.
